Judy R. Dubno, PhD, is a Distinguished University Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She earned her PhD in Speech and Hearing Science from the City University of New York Graduate Center with a post-doctoral fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine. She was recruited from UCLA in 1991 to help found a hearing research program at MUSC.

Since 1981, Dubno’s research has been supported through continuous grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is responsible for one of the longest-running grants concerning age-related hearing loss. She previously served on an Advisory Council of the NIH, four National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine consensus committees, and as President of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology and the Acoustical Society of America.

Dubno was the inaugural recipient of the MUSC Peggy Schachte Research Mentor Award in 2010, and she received the 2018 Honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the 2018 South Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in Science, and the 2020 Gold Medal from the Acoustical Society of America.
