Maria Cordova Salinas, DMD, worked in MUSC’s departments of Pharmacology and Physiology from 1976 to 1982, while finding time to earn her DMD degree from MUSC in 1986. She previously earned her DDS in 1964 from Universidad de Chile and a Post Doctor from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1973.

Cordova Salinas then ran a successful general family dentistry practice in Charleston from 1986-2011. She also volunteered regularly at several free clinics and was active in her dental association and local civic organizations. Chief among her record of service: she and her husband were the driving force in SC Special Olympics Special Smiles. She continues to support education and innovation at MUSC through the annual Carlos F. Salinas Dental Program for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Individuals with Special Health Care Needs.
