Carolyn Washington Brown, DMD, graduated from the MUSC College of Dental Medicine in 1994. She serves as an alumna member of the Student Recruitment and Admissions Committee and travels to Charleston from Columbia every two weeks to interview prospective dental students, and spends many hours online attending the committee meetings. She also serves on the Diversity Council and is a role model to students with diverse backgrounds.

She serves as a member of the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry and was elected board president in 2020. Brown has recently been selected to be Commissioner on the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) by the American Association of Dental Boards, a significant honor and recognition of her expertise in the practice of dentistry.

Previously, Brown has held leadership positions within several dental associations, including chair of the South Carolina Dental Association Diversity Committee, delegate representing the Central District Dental Association to the South Carolina Dental Association, member of the Palmetto Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association, and executive committee member-at-large for the Alumnae Council at Columbia College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.
